The United Way of Lamar County offers both rent and utility assistance to those in need in Lamar County, Texas.
Utility assistance is done over the phone by calling 903-784-6642 Monday-Thursday 8:30am - 11:30am. We cannot provide utility assistance more than once in a 12 month period nor can our assistance with utility bills exceed $500 over a 3 year period.
Rental assistance is by application only. Applications are available outside our office door beginning on the 20th of each month until the end of the month. You may turn in your application at any time through the mail slot in our front door. Applications are process and decisions made on a case by case basis, but you cannot owe more than one month's rent. Usually we only help with paying rent once
Both programs are for individuals and families experiencing financial hardship. We prioritize for those who are over the age of 65, have young children in the home or are experiencing a medical crisis.
Decisions regarding who shall receive assistance are final.
