The United Way of Lamar County offers four, one-time $500 scholarships to graduating high school seniors in Lamar County. The first is a $500 academic scholarship for those students going to a 2 or 4 year college, who have benefitted in some way from the United Way or one of our partner agencies. The second is a $500 CTE scholarship for those students studying in a career or technical program. And the third, new last year, is a $500 scholarship for "first generation" in their families to attend a 2 or 4 year college.
In 2022 we added another scholarship specifically for students interested in becoming teachers to address the teacher shortage. It is a $1,000 per year (up to four years of undergraduate studies for a total of $4000) scholarship for those pursuing an educational degree to be a teacher in Lamar County.
Applications for all three scholarships are due by May 1st of each year and are available at your high school counselor's office or by emailing srossonuwlc@gmail.com
